Hamadryas are recognized by their spotted “calico” pattern on the upper-sides. The genus is most famous for the crackling noises that individuals produce during interactions with congeners. This mechanism and function seems very likely part of their courtship behavior.

The Doxocopa's are one of the only species that have a fluorescent green proboscis. Seen here is the male of the species very colorful lep. Female looks like the common adelpha sp with white and orange on brown no blue or purple.
